Why we launch BORRN
TLDR; We launch BORRN to help European founders who solve hard problems land their story better; Advisory on Value Prop & Storytelling, Product Design, Growth & Go-To-Market Strategy.
When we started REBORRN, our vision was to create a dynamic company equally adept at collaborating with sprawling multinational corporations and nimble start-ups. This dual focus wasn't just strategic for revenue diversity; engaging with start-ups challenged us to maintain a level of agility and responsiveness that big corporates seldom demand.
Costas and I were adamant about preserving this operational flexibility, and six years in, our journey has been nothing short of remarkable. We've partnered with over a dozen visionary founders, aiding them in everything from defining their value propositions and designing their products to launching new ventures and crafting innovative market entry strategies. Along the way, we've not only invested in some of these trailblazers but also ventured into launching our own initiatives.
Enter last year where:
The part our business that works with startups got significantly bigger, capitalising on the successes of the past few years and their network effect.
We now see a bigger opportunity in the market; (a) the greek tech ecosystem is more mature and (b) REBORRN’s footprint is more international and we believe that we can work with more European founders.
We were fortunate enough to meet Mathilda, whose strong experience in working with startups compliments the team’s skillset, and her unstoppable passion can further grow the business.
All the above led us to make a separate business out of it, launching an 21st century advisory for startups; BORRN.
BORRN starts as a small but mighty team of makers with deep expertise on:
Value Proposition & Storytelling.
Product Experience & Design.
Growth & Go to Market.
We want to help technical founders that solve hard problems and their story to the market and be their go-to partner for growth.
While starting an advisory for startups is by design a risky venture, as every startup hates consultants with the passion of a thousand suns 🤣, we believe we have a good chance on growing such a business for the following 3 reasons:
A. We are not your textbook consultants.
No one working at BORRN is a consultant or has any consulting experience. Instead, we chose to build a team of makers, people with strong experience as operators, and enterpreuners that have been through the journey of building from Zero to one multiple times.
B. We are probably faster than your inhouse team.
That is quite a statement especially towards Seed/Series A team, but our past experience we can be faster than a fast moving, founding team of such a startup. We are using our flagship problem solving methodology that we have developed through the years and borrows ideas from Design thinking principles, practical steps from design sprint methodology, Scrum and the concept of hackathons, to solve problems in days instead of weeks. We have gone as far as launching an entire company from pitch deck to live paying customers in 2 weeks.
C. Value or performance based Pricing
As we have been preaching at REBORRN for the past 6 years, we believe that making money based on “hours spent” is counterproductive and naturally incentivises the supplier to work longer and sometimes invent work to make a decent profit. On the contrary, we believe that in a fast-changing world, we should be getting paid more if we deliver a certain outcome faster. We are only charging our work based on value and sometimes performance.
While advisory services will be BORRN's cornerstone, we're also exploring other avenues to support and collaborate with ambitious founders. From investing in promising ventures to considering equity-based engagements and incubating new ideas, we're keeping our options wide open.
As we stand at the threshold of this new adventure, the future is exhilaratingly uncertain. What BORRN will evolve into over the next couple of years is anyone's guess, but that's precisely what makes this journey so thrilling. Here's to moving forward, always aiming higher.
